A Heat Warning has been issued for parts of the Foothills, Vulcan County, and Siksika Nation.   

The Warning was issued by Environment Canada on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 8:09 p.m.  

Temperatures reaching 31°C are expected again on Wednesday (Aug. 13).  

The Warning is in effect for the following areas:  

  • Foothills Co. near Blackie  
  • Siksika Res. 146  
  • Vulcan Co. near Arrowwood, Herronton, and Queenstown  
  • Vulcan Co. near Vulcan and Ensign  
  • Vulcan Co. near Carmangay and Champion  
  • Vulcan Co. near Lomond Travers and Little Bow Reservoirs  
  • Vulcan Co. near Milo  

Temperatures will moderate by Thursday.  

Residents of and visitors of the affected areas are advised to take precautions to protect themselves, such as rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler hours of the day, taking frequent breaks from the heat, drinking plenty of water, and spending time in cool indoor spaces when possible.  

During the heat wave, individuals are encouraged to monitor for symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, such as high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness.  

Children, seniors, and those with pre-existing conditions can experience earlier or more severe effects from the heat.
