Carnie's Comments

It was late last Saturday night. I was well-rested and feeling energetic. Then, I remembered, I had been invited to a party in my neighbourhood. I don't go to too many shindigs anymore but I went to that one and stayed out very late.

Back at home, at 2:30am, I was still kind of edgy and then I realized, the moon was full. That explained it for me.

Are our emotions, in fact, heightened during a full moon? I believe they are but, some think it's just folklore.

Scientifically speaking, the full moon emits more light which can affect sleep patterns. Some studies suggest we don't sleep as deeply or as long during a full moon and that can lead to mood changes and irritability.

Other studies conclude we notice and remember strange behaviour during a full moon because we expect it.

I know a number of people who work in emergency services - emergency rooms and police departments. Many of them will tell you some people go a little goofy when the moon is full and they're always busier than usual when the moon shines brightly.

By the way, the next full moon is Sunday, September 7th.
