Fourth Annual Harvest Dinner to raise funds for archives and nature programs. Submitted/Lacombe Musuem

For the second year, the Lacombe Museum is set to take part in the fourth annual Harvest Dinner Fundraising Gala on Saturday, August 23, in partnership with the Ellis Nature Centre.

The elegant farm-to-fork evening will raise funds for both the Lacombe Museum and Ellis Nature Centre, while offering guests a night of exceptional food, live entertainment and community spirit.

Daniel Becker, executive director of the Lacombe Museum, said the gala is about more than great food.

“We provide participants with information during the gala because it is a fundraiser as well,” Becker said. “We share where the funds will go, what projects they’ll support, what challenges we face, and what needs we have.”

This year’s funds will go toward critical archival projects, including replacing a broken document scanner and restocking specialized supplies the museum hasn’t been able to purchase in four or five years.

“Usually there’s a lot of specific archival materials we need, non-acidic filing folders, certain types of tissue paper, wax paper for storing documents,” Becker said.

“We have a lot of photographs from the early 1900s that are starting to fall apart. Any money we can divert toward archival projects helps us make sure things like this are either digitized or stored properly. It really goes toward helping us literally preserve things."

Guests will enjoy a menu prepared and catered by Milly Oak Catering, featuring local producers such as Klein Farms chicken and Iron Kreek Ranch beef.

The evening begins at 5 p.m. with cocktails and entertainment, followed by dinner service at 6 p.m.

“This year we asked the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra to come in, and they’re providing a duet of strings for musical entertainment,” Becker said.

In addition to fine dining and music, guests will enjoy a trivia quiz designed to encourage conversation and lighthearted competition between tables.

“We’re going to build out a bunch of quiz questions for participants and hope each table participates as a team,” Becker said.

“It creates an environment of collaboration and adds a little friendly competition. I’ve been working on trivia questions for the last year and a half, local history, maybe some Alberta history.”

Becker said the partnership with the Ellis Nature Centre is another highlight of the evening and one he hopes will continue for years to come.

Tickets are available until August 22 for $100, or $95 for Lacombe Museum members and only a few remain.
