Members of the Weyburn Police Service were called to a local drinking establishment regarding unruly patrons in the early morning hours of August 9th, resulting in charges laid for Assault as well as Assault Causing Bodily Harm.
Upon arrival, officers determined a fight had occurred, and one person was transported to the hospital for assessment. The assault investigation remains ongoing, and charges are pending.
"Could be multiple assault charges, back and forth, could be a fighting bylaw. Maybe one person just gets charged with assault. That one's still ongoing," shared Deputy Chief Shane St. John.
The investigation is complete on another incident that occurred later that same night, when police were called back to the same establishment for a second fight involving multiple individuals.
"They got the witness statements and one person definitely went over the line with two others and caused some severe injuries," he noted.
"We did find him the following night. He was heavily intoxicated the next night in the same establishment. He was not the easiest to deal with, but police did get him into custody without any further charges, like 'assault to police' or 'resisting arrest'. But it could have been a lot worse, even than it was."
St. John said the man was placed in cells until sober. His charges include two counts of Assault Causing Bodily Harm and Breach of Probation.
Those conditions could include keeping the peace and being on good behavior, so he had crossed the line, and since he was 'clearly intoxicated' when the event occurred, as well as the next night, noting he suspects alcohol abuse is a contributing factor to the incidents occurring while on probation.
