The Saskatoon Berries ran out of juice on Tuesday night as their season came to an end with a 6-2 loss to Regina Red Sox in the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) East Final.
Regina claimed the best of three series 2-1.
Muenster’s Merek Yeager got the start in the crucial matchup, he ended up taking the loss. Yeager pitched four innings, allowing three runs on five hits. He also had three strikeouts.
The teams traded runs in the first inning before Regina added a pair in the third inning.
A sacrifice fly by Abiam Medina allowed Carter Beck to score his second run of the game to cut the deficit to one run.
But the Red Sox shut down the Berries the rest of the way. Ayden Page closed out the game pitching a scoreless 3.2 innings to earn the save.
Regina will now advance to the WCBL Finals to take on the Sylvan Lake Gulls.
Game 1 is in Regina tomorrow before moving over to Sylvan Lake on Friday.
If a Game 3 is needed then it will be in Sylvan Lake on Saturday.
Regina will be looking to win their first league championship since winning the WMBL championship in 2010 and 2011 while Sylvan Lake has never won a league title.
The Berries will end the sophomore campaign with a record breaking regular season with 46 wins but will have to wait at least another year before they can taste championship success.
