Jamaican-Canadian K-Anthony hopes that his latest single, "Falling" reminds listeners to keep going despite the challenges faced.
"The song came from when Peter saw Jesus walking on the water," K-Anthony said. "Sometimes we have great hopes and expectations for what God has created us to do, but in the midst of it, situations happen and you might slip and fall, but the idea is don't stay falling, but get back up."
While writing the track, he said it was a tough season for him. "I was going through anxiety and depression. There are some issues in my family life that were bearing heavily on me and I realized that I felt weighed down and I needed to be picked up."
After talking to a producer, K-Anthony was encouraged to write about what was happening. "We just went directly into writing and this came out, the beautiful expression, full of emotion."
He hopes that others will be able to find encouragement through him sharing his story. "There's a common experience for everyone, so I hope they can see that God can lift them up from wherever they are and to continue walking them along this journey."
K-Anthony is thankful for his Christian upbringing and says his first encounter with God came at a disobedient act. "I wasn't supposed to go to the beach. I ended up following some friends and almost drowned."
He said that in the moment, something his pastor said stuck out. "'If you're ever in trouble, call on God.' Everything was happening so fast. And so I said, 'God, save me. And if You do, I'll give You my heart.' Out of the blue, a former classmate kept shouting that I shouldn't give up. He's coming to save me."
K-Anthony admitted that he had already gone under the water and was getting more and more tired. "I was about to give up. I think it was really God speaking to him, to tell him to remind me that, 'hey, you have asked Me for help and here is the help that I'm going to give you.' He saved me."
Not long after that moment, K-Anthony made a promise to God. "I need to keep the promise, and my relationship with God grew stronger and I got baptized when I was in Grade eight."
While his walk with God has not always been smooth, he says it's worth it. "What many people don't tell you is that the Christian walk is the best walk, but it doesn't mean that it's going to be a smooth road. It's a very narrow road, and it comes with hurdles.
"Sometimes you think you're prepared to go over the hurdle. Failure can propel it into mastering that weakness or mastering that thing that keeps you down. And so I've never given up because I've realized that Jesus has never given up on me."
He shared that Proverbs 3:5-6 has been an important reminder for him. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.
"Your current life situation might seem dark or dim. But you can trust God that He's always faithful. If you place yourself into His care, He will guide you and He will see you live out the purpose that He has created you for. So trust God."
"Falling" will be released Friday, August 15, 2025.
