Alberta Transportation Minister Devin Dreeshen recently toured the new Penhold Waskasoo Middle School ahead of its opening for the 2025-26 school year.

Dreeshen was joined by school and Chinook’s Edge School Division administrators, including principal Lisa Baird and former associate superintendent Shawn Russell, who retired in June.

The minister said he was impressed with the school’s design and pleased it was completed on schedule.

Baird said she is eager to welcome students.

“It’s not just about our classrooms and hallways — it’s about building a home for learning and belonging,” she said.

The school will serve Grades 4 through 8 and classes begin Sept. 3, with the grand opening set for Sept. 12.
