Team Saskatchewan’s Men’s Baseball team is one win away from earning a medal at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
On Wednesday, Saskatchewan defeated Quebec 8-7 in a thrilling contest.
After being tied 6-6 following the 7th inning, Quebec scored a run in the top of the 8th to move ahead.
But Saskatchewan came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. The game winning run was a result of Joshua Gutek being hit by a pitch.
Muenster’s Cade Britz was 1 for 4 at the plate and scored a pair of runs.
Thanks to the victory, Saskatchewan advances to the semifinals on Friday. They will face the winner of the matchup between Alberta and Quebec.
The other semifinal will feature British Columbia (BC) and Prince Edward Island (PEI). The two teams met on Wednesday with PEI winning 3-1 on Wednesday morning.
BC advanced to the semifinals after they defeated Manitoba 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
The winners of the semifinals will meet on Saturday in the Gold Medal game.
Meanwhile, the losers of the semifinals will meet in the Bronze Medal game also on Saturday.
Saskatchewan has been eliminated from medal contention in Women’s Box Lacrosse after they were defeated by Ontario 8-1 in the quarterfinals.
With the loss, Saskatchewan will now fall into the consolation game on Thursday. With a win, they would advance to the 5th place game on Friday, a loss would mean they would play in the 7th place on Friday.
