With harvest underway, producers and motorists are being reminded to take extra time and make safety a priority.

That means watching out for large equipment moving on grid roads or highways as producers move from one field to another.

Farmers are also reminded to take frequent rest breaks, make sure someone knows where they are working, eat properly, and make sure to get enough sleep so they are refreshed and ready to go the next day.

Recent rainfall has helped improve dry conditions, but it's important that farmers remember to make sure they have fire suppression equipment on hand, from fire extinguishers in equipment and vehicle cabs to water trucks at the field.

Harvest can be a busy time for farmers, but it's important to stay alert and be fully aware of your surroundings and watch out for power lines when moving machinery.

Farmers are also reminded to make sure that all safety shields are replaced when clearing equipment and that road safety signs can be clearly seen when moving equipment.

Agriculture Minister Daryl Harrison says harvest time is a reminder of the importance of the agriculture sector to Saskatchewan's economy.

"As harvest 2025 begins, I want to extend my appreciation to every producer, farm family, and agricultural worker who contributes to the province's economic growth and export strength."

Harrison notes the agriculture sector is responsible for 10 per cent of the provincial economy and 41 per cent of our total global exports.

Harvest can be an extremely stressful time of the year and can take a toll on your mental health. Producers can reach out to the Farm Stress Line for support 24/7 the free, confidential service is available to those working in the agriculture sector toll-free at 1-800-667-4442.
