Saskatchewan welcomes 54,000 students for fall semester
More than 54,000 students are heading back to campuses across Saskatchewan this fall as the 2025-26 post-secondary academic year gets underway.
Advanced Education Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said the province remains committed to supporting students as they begin or continue their studies.
RCMP shares safety tips for new drivers
Alberta RCMP is reminding young and inexperienced drivers to stay cautious behind the wheel as traffic volumes increase during the summer months.
According to Transport Canada, new drivers are more likely to be involved in fatal or injury collisions due to inexperience and age.
Mounties say drivers with a learner’s licence must always be accompanied by a fully licensed Class 5 driver. They also stress the importance of avoiding distractions, such as using a phone, and ensuring all passengers are buckled up.
Saskatchewan finalizes trade mission to Asia
The dates are set Premier Scott Moe's trade mission to Asia runs September 6th to 12th.
It's a very important region for the province ... In 2024, Saskatchewan exported over $10 billion to Asia—$4.4 billion to China, $929 million to Japan and 162 million to South Korea.
The goal is to reinforce future trade opportunities and engage with China on their temporary duties on peas and canola.
The Premier has invited Prime Minister Mark Carney and any other federal ministers to join the trade mission.
Valiant finish for local competitors at Canada Summer Games
Team Saskatchewan's final medal count at the 2025 Canada Summer Games came in at 48. Athletes donning the green and white earned 13 gold, 14 silver, and 21 bronze medals over two weeks of competition out east in St John's, Newfoundland.
The closing ceremony took place on Sunday as double-gold diver Lila Stewart joined fellow two time gold medalist in Para Athletics Brendan Cote-Williamson as flag bearers.
Southwest History: 5,000-year-old archeological site buried beneath prairies
Beneath the unassuming farmland of Southwestern Saskatchewan is an ancient human burial site among the oldest Indigenous burial sites on the prairies.
Designated as a national historic site of Canada in November of 1973, the Gray Burial Site is located roughly 15 minutes northwest of the City of Swift Current, in a hillside which stands guard over a ravine that was once a glacial outwash channel.
Roughriders stomped out again as Stampeders take season series
The Saskatchewan Roughriders arrived in Calgary on Saturday night primed to avenge a 24-10 home loss to the Stampeders back in July, but their efforts were thwarted as the home side took a 32-15 win to sweep the season series against the Roughriders while also handing Saskatchewan their second loss of the season.
New road sign pointing people to Grill Lake Memorial site
Anyone who commutes around Unity along Highway #21 south may have noticed a new road sign go up in the last month.
Located just south of town are two road signs pointing west to Denzil and east to Revenue, the newest addition also sending people east towards the Grill Lake Memorial military site.
The Unity Legion Branch No.90 took to social media to turn people's attention to the sign back on July 24.
Sun West Announces Winners of 2024-25 Student Art Contest
The Sun West School Division has announced the winners of its 2024-25 Student Art Contest, recognizing the creativity and talent of over 250 students across the region. Winners were selected in four age categories, with first and second place recipients receiving gift cards, framed versions of their artwork, and certificates presented by Sun West Board of Education members at their schools. Each winning student’s class will also enjoy a pizza party, and the original artwork will be displayed at the Sun West Division Office throughout the year.
