It's Throwback Thursday - just a minute to remember the good ol' days.

It's a social post from comedian Ron James inspiring today's commentary. He posted a photo from backstage at the Second City Main Stage in Toronto from 1981. He was paid $350 for eight shows a week with 50% off at the bar.

It took me back to 1985 and my first job in radio in North Battleford. I made $800 a month - $825 after I survived my three month probation period. I didn't get any discounts at any bars which was probably a good thing.

I did, however, find ways to get by. I shared a three bedroom apartment with three others and we split the bills.

I got a rude awakening when I had to buy more own groceries but I became a good shopper, finding the deals at the super market once a week. Back then you could get five packages of ramen noodles for a dollar. I'd get 25 packs for five bucks!

I also recall the 7-11 across the street from the radio station had hot dogs - three for a buck every day. I'd be there three times a week and take a pocket full of mustard and relish to top them off!

Did I say this was "just a minute to remember the GOOD 'ol days"?

Ya. No.
