A vehicle reported stolen from a business on Prairie Road in the Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet was located in Winnipeg on Tuesday, August 12, thanks to a coordinated effort between local and provincial police teams.

The incident began around 2:00 p.m., when RCMP officers from Whitemouth were monitoring Highway 11 for the stolen vehicle. They spotted it turning onto the highway from Road 502, but were unable to stop it at the time safely. Officers chose not to pursue the vehicle directly and continued their investigation through other means.

Members of the RCMP’s East District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team (CREST) and Emergency Response Team (ERT), with support from Winnipeg Police, located two people connected to the vehicle walking nearby on Lagimodière Boulevard.

One of the individuals, 25-year-old Riley Caie of Stony Mountain, was arrested at the scene. A 19-year-old woman from the RM of Rockwood was also taken into custody but was later released without charge.

Caie remains in custody and is facing several charges related to incidents spanning from July 22 to August 12, including:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
