The medal hopes for three local athletes at the Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, Nfld. Yesterday. 

In women’s box lacrosse, Team Saskatchewan was defeated by Ontario 8-1 in the quarter-finals. Moose Jaw’s Kyler Pladson was held off the scoresheet against Ontario. 

Saskatchewan will be back in action on Thursday as they take on Manitoba in the consolation round. 

In women’s softball, Saskatchewan dropped a 12-6 decision to Quebec yesterday. Moose Jaw’s Ava Unser pitched one and a third innings, allowing three hits and two runs. Also on the women’s softball roster from Moose Jaw is Blake Maltais. 

Saskatchewan will now take on PEI in the seventh place game. 

The cycling road race also took place on Wednesday, with Moose Jaw’s Marcus Capili finishing in 27th. 

Saskatchewan will have a chance for medals in the next couple of days as the men’s and women’s basketball teams as well as the tennis team are in the medal rounds. 

Saskatchewan has two medals so far with a gold medal in para-swimming by Leo Zheng from the Moose Jaw Flying Fins and a bronze medal from Regina’s Baer Robertson in Canoe Kayak men’s 1,000 m C-1.
