From near-misses in crosswalks to a costly scam targeting a local resident, Estevan police were kept on their toes Aug. 13.
Police responded to a report of a possible impaired driver. Officers attended the location but were unable to locate the vehicle. The vehicle was later found at the registered owner’s residence.
An erratic driver was reported after a pedestrian was nearly struck in a crosswalk in the central part of the city. A license plate was provided, and police attended the vehicle’s registered owner to identify a suspect. The matter remains under investigation.
The Estevan Police Service continues to respond to multiple complaints of erratic driving in the Walmart parking lot. Members spoke with several young adults and teenagers about the situation. Police remind the public to drive with caution, especially in areas with high pedestrian traffic.
A resident reported falling victim to a scam that resulted in a substantial loss of money. The individual received a phone call from someone posing as a grandson in need of legal assistance. The money was sent by mail. Police are working with Canada Post to try to intercept the delivery before it reaches its destination.
Police responded to a domestic disturbance between roommates. All parties were spoken to regarding their living arrangements and ongoing concerns.
While responding to a disturbance call, police were flagged down by a member of the public who reported hearing what sounded like two individuals screaming in the area. Officers checked the vicinity but were unable to locate the source.
Police were dispatched a second time to the previously mentioned residence for a domestic disturbance between roommates. Additional information was collected, and the investigation is ongoing.
Estevan Fire & Rescue requested police assistance at an apartment complex in the north end during a potential carbon monoxide leak investigation. No safety concerns were found during the check.
