Joan Anne Hergott
July 7, 1953 – August 8, 2025
Joan Anne Hergott, age 72, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2025, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Joan’s journey began on July 7, 1953, in Humboldt, SK, where she also completed high school and started her family. Her passion for helping others led her to St. Peter’s College in Muenster, beginning her path toward social work. In 1993, she moved to Kindersley, where she became a vital part of the community through her work with Child Protective Services. In 1998, she relocated to Saskatoon to work at Calder Center, continuing her education and earning her Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Regina in 2004. Her career was marked by compassion and dedication, especially in her later years working in community services. Joan worked closely with a bereavement group, a support network that became a cornerstone of healing for many - a reflection of her unwavering empathy and strength. Outside of work, Joan was a talented bowler, placing 3rd nationally in women’s singles in 1983. She was a devoted mother, spending countless hours at the rink cheering on her boys. Summers at Greenwater Lake and canoe trips in northern Saskatchewan were among her most treasured memories. Joan was also a proud and active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 46 years, where her wisdom and support helped transform countless lives. Her warmth, resilience, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Joan is lovingly remembered by her sons: Robert Cales (Karri) of Lethbridge, AB; Richard Cales and Ronald Cales, both of Kindersley, SK.; cherished grandchildren: Dylann, Mackenzie, Easton, Kamdyn, and Landyn; her siblings: Albert Hergott (Diane), Brian Hergott, Mary Lang (Paul), Kenneth Hergott (Alice), and Robert Hergott; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and dear friends whose lives she touched deeply. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, William and Alvina Hergott, and special niece, Lori Lang.
