Get ready to help a great cause with the grills fired up today in downtown Swift Current.
Folks can stop by the third Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue for lunch at the Innovation Centre, where Golden West Swift Current is grilling up the burgers in support of Southwest Crisis Services. For just $10, you can help ensure that when SWCS leaves with 100 per cent of the day's proceeds, they are leaving with a total that has the generosity of Swift Current in every dollar.
David Zammit, programming director and content lead for Golden West Swift Current, is confident that this being the third Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue will be one of the best yet.
"100% of the proceeds will be going to Southwest Crisis Services, which is our third charity that we've selected this year," said Zammit. "So we're looking forward to partnering with them for a big barbecue."
With Sidewalk Days continuing in downtown Swift Current, Zammit hopes to see people choosing to come support SWCS by picking up lunch between shopping.
"Come join us in front of the Innovation Center!" said Zammit. "Summer is sadly starting to dwindle on us, but barbecue season is certainly still around, so let's keep it going."
Southwest Crisis Service is a non-profit that specializes in helping young women and families. Their intervention and mediation help change lives for the better, in part thanks to donations and funding from the public.
"They accept your $10 for your burger, pop, chips, and then they just keep that money," said Zammit. "At the end, we just tally up what was raised from the barbecue, and that's the donation."
If you have any questions for the non-profit, feel free to stop and chat with their members as they man the cash box at the barbecue.
The barbecue will be open from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.
