Saturday will mark a perfect opportunity to go for a walk in Wakaw.
“Walk”aw Days returns the community.
Following the recently completed 1st Street Revitalization Project, there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:00. It will be a chance to showcase the renovated downtown area.
Batoche MLA Darlene Rowden and some of the contractors that worked on the project will be on hand for the ceremony.
Community and Development Manager Dwane Burke says they will thank you to the business community for their patience and understanding during the construction.
Burke says the “Walk”aw Day has evolved into different businesses doing different things at different times.
The Oasis Elite Beauty along with Wakaw’s Espresso Cafe are bringing in Thomas the Train that will entertain the kids allowing them a trip around the town. The kids can board at the Oasis.
On 1st Street, different businesses will have different promotions that will feature games including a spin to win, as well kids can discover some new treasures in each location.
This year will mark the third edition of “Walk”aw Days as Burke explains and adds that this year promises to be an exciting edition with the work done in the downtown area.
“We had this vision that this is going to look good when the 1st street is down here and now we get to really enjoy it and the Walk-aw days were awesome before, but now it's really have a nicer canvas.”
With Wakaw Lake located only a few kilometres away from the town, Wakaw becomes a busy place during the summer months says Burke.
“Wakaw is definitely a lake community in that sense we have that close relationship with many of the neighbors who do either live at the lake permanently, or if they're just day trippers.”
Burke added the local residents and businesses always welcome the visitors to the town.
“Our businesses definitely appreciate the contributions that those people make in the community as well as the community itself.”
With a steady traffic flow in the summer, Burke says it makes the Saturday Farmer’s Markets a popular place.
