The Heaven Can Wait Animal Rescue Foundation is teeing up for its sixth annual Golf Classic on Sept. 8.

President Kim Hessel said the event never fails to be a fun time.

"The people who are there are there to support us to have a good time. It's one of those ones where everyone gets along," Hessel said. "It's just so nice to see that everyone's visiting between the tables. Obviously, we've got tons of prizes, there's a beautiful dinner, there's our silent auction. There's a whole bunch of things that we do on the side. It's a very fun, good group of people that have joined us in the past, and we'd love to see some more."

The event runs at Sirocco Golf Club and starts with a round-robin at 1 p.m., followed by dinner, prizes, and the silent auction.

It's one of the organization's biggest fundraisers of the year, and Heaven Can Wait usually relies on funds raised at the event to carry them through to the end of the year.

"The bulk of it goes to veterinary care, that's our biggest expense," explained Hessel. "Behind that would be food, and behind that is litter. We spend a fortune on litter each month. So the money is all very well used towards the care and the new guys coming in, and care of the existing guys."

The event's organizers are still looking for competitors, sponsors, and donations for prizes.

Even if you don't golf, Hessel said there are ways to lend a hand.

"If you're not a golfer, that's okay. We're looking for prizes, we're looking for silent auction prizes, we're looking for team prizes. We're looking for people who can come and give their time that day, help us with the 50/50, and with all the things that we're doing before the tournament starts. There's always some way you can help."

More information on the event, including registration and sponsorships, is available on the Heaven Can Wait website.
