Cochrane’s Reese McKay will start in goal again today as Alberta aims for gold in women’s lacrosse at the Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, N.L.
The 15-year-old goalie starred in Alberta’s 4-3 semifinal win over Ontario yesterday, stopping 56 shots and earning player-of-the-game honours for the second time in the tournament.
Alberta trailed 3-0 just 10 minutes into the game before McKay slammed the door on their opponents to allow her team to chip away at the lead and secure the victory.
Ironically, McKay’s first player-of-the-game award came in a 5-3 preliminary-round loss to Ontario.
An undefeated British Columbia team turned away Nova Scotia 7-1 in the other semifinal matchup to advance to today's gold medal game at 2 p.m. MST following the bronze medal game between Ontario and Nova Scotia.
