Red Deer swimmer Kingston Hitchcock made waves at the 2025 Canada Games, leaving the pool with an impressive seven medals and a wealth of memories.

Competing for Team Alberta, the 16-year-old from the Red Deer Catalina Swim Club claimed,

  • Two silver medals in the 4x200m Freestyle Relay and the 400m Individual Medley
  • Five bronze medals in the 4x100m Freestyle Relay (men’s), 4x100m Freestyle Relay (mixed), 4x100m Medley Relay (mixed), 200m Individual Medley, and the 4x100m Freestyle Relay (men’s)
  • Placed fifth in the 200m Freestyle 
  • Placed18th in the 100m Butterfly

While the medal count is impressive, Hitchcock says the Games meant more than just podium finishes.

“I’m really looking forward to the experience of swimming with a team, sharing the highs and lows, supporting each other, and building that unique team bond,” he said before the event. “I want to create lasting memories, both in and out of the pool, that I’ll carry with me long after the competition ends.”

Hitchcock’s standout event is the 200m Individual Medley, where his personal best is 2:10.52.

He says the race’s demand for both strategy and endurance keeps him motivated.

“It challenges every stroke,” he explained. “I’m always working to improve and hopefully hit a new personal best.”

His path to the podium has been paved with dedication, in the 2023–2024 season, he captured multiple medals at the Canadian Swimming Championships in Toronto, earned Swim Alberta’s Boys 15-Year-Old Aggregate Award after winning all eight of his events at the Winter Championships, and helped his club win the High Point award in the Small Club category.

He has also qualified for Swimming Canada’s World Championship Trials.
