The community waits for it all year, and in just a couple days Morden's Corn and Apple Festival will return. This Friday through Sunday thousands will enjoy the free entertainment, dozens of vendors, food trucks, midway and more.
Mayor Nancy Penner is excited to welcome both visitors and residents to the fun.
"What a weekend it's going to be, we wait all year for Corn and Apple," said the Mayor. "The Corn and Apple Committee has a non-stop weekend of entertainment planned for everybody and for the whole family. Friday night we'll be kicking off with Canadian country artist Chad Brownlee who will be on the main stage. On Saturday The Big Shiny 90s is a vibrant and talented cover band from Toronto, reviving the iconic sounds of the 90s, so that'll no doubt draw a large crowd. We hope to see everybody out for not only Friday and Saturday, but the whole weekend."
Message regarding Stanley Community Pathway
Meanwhile, construction work continues on the new Stanley Community Pathway that will run through the municipality and connect the cities of Morden and Winkler. Paving has started on parts of the path, where others are still waiting for the blacktop.
On behalf of the Stanley Trails Association, Morden Mayor Nancy Penner had this message to share...
"I know everyone is so excited to see the paving happen on the trail," she said. "It's happening in sections, and the construction crew is just really concerned about liability. Until the pathway is complete it's still an active construction site, and needs to be respected as such. They're asking everyone to please stay off the pathway until all sections are complete."
Lakeside Fall Festival returns
And looking ahead to another event, coming up Saturday, September 13th will be the return of the Lakeside Fall Festival.
"The Lakeside Fall Festival will run from 1pm to 6pm, and there'll be lots of activities for the whole family," noted Penner. "I think there's going to be food trucks, there's going to be a wall climb, barrel train for the kids. Apparently there's going to be a jousting area and face painting and a wildlife presentation."
Also, there are plans for a hot dog eating contest where contestants will have 10 minutes to eat as many hot dogs as they can.
