Estevan Dairy Queen was bustling Thursday as the community came out in full force for the 23rd annual Miracle Treat Day in support of the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.

For franchise owners Louise Vandenhurk and Loret Zoner, the day holds special meaning.

“It’s our 23rd annual Miracle Treat Day, and actually, it’s our personally 21st, we missed the one year because of the fire. It’s a big day, and everything from every Blizzard goes to the Jim Pattison Hospital.”

The pair credited their staff for making the day such a success. “We couldn’t do this without them. They love doing this, and they love doing it for the cause.”

The turnout was impressive, with steady traffic from the moment doors opened.

“Since we opened the doors at 11, there’s been a lineup continuously. It really is amazing to watch a day like this.”

Businesses also played a big role by submitting preorders, which the team had ready for pick-up alongside customers’ morning coffees. “It doesn’t matter what we do, they support us. It’s an amazing community to be in.”

Above all, the day was about giving back. “We need to support our children.”

Adding to the fun, GoldenWest Radio hosted a Blizzard eating contest featuring Deputy Chief Lincoln Empey from the Estevan Fire Department, Executive Director Merissa Scarlett from the Estevan Chamber of Commerce, Karli Kittleston from GoldenWest Radio, and Chase Hole from the Estevan Bruins. Lincoln emerged victorious but graciously handed his prize, a Dairy Queen gift card to Chase, who was a close second.

Special thanks go to Estevan Dairy Queen for providing the gift card and to GoldenWest Radio for sponsoring the contest, which was broadcast live on-air. And they sold 1,346 Blizzards this year.

With another successful Miracle Treat Day in the books, organizers are already looking ahead to an even bigger 2026 event.
