Supporters of the Weyburn Humane Society have a little more time now to Ride for Paws and Support the Cause, as the raffle draw date has been extended for the Jeep Compass North 4x4. See more photos HERE.

"We realized well it's only a week and a half away and we hadn't sold enough tickets to cover our expenses to date," shared Board Chair Beverly Paul. "So we felt that we had to contact SLGA to see about getting an extension on the draw date."

She said the SLGA was able to accommodate their request.

"We had to provide some information to them as to what we expected with anymore future expenses. As well, we had to commit to advertising as much as possible just to let people know about the new draw date, and once we had all of that in place, then we were approved."

The new draw date is Thursday, October 23rd, at 1 p.m. at Weyburn Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Ltd.

"So we selected to go another couple of months. We felt that would give us enough time to attend some more events that were coming up in August and September and, as well, just to give people some more time to buy a ticket."

One of those events will be a swap meet coming up for the Soo Line Cruisers in September.

"This is kind of a different year, I think. People are a little more strapped for cash, and kids are going back to school this month and so there are a lot of people that just can't afford to put that hundred dollars out for a ticket. So we're hoping that another couple of months should make a big difference."

"The farmers will probably all have their crops off and maybe have a little extra cash too, so it's just good news all around. People have more time to purchase a ticket, and we still hope to realize the profit on this raffle."

She noted the fundraiser can only be successful if they can do more than cover expenses for the vehicle and the cost of operating the raffle.

Last year, they only had 1,000 tickets available, all set up to purchase online.

"A lot of people didn't like the idea of going online to purchase the ticket, putting their credit card information out there, and most people felt that being able to come and just purchase a ticket to have that ticket in your hand really meant a lot more than doing it online."

This year, there are 2,000 tickets available, which can be purchased for $100 each at the animal shelter, Weyburn Dodge, and Pet Valu.

"I know we're probably not going to sell out as much as we'd like to, it would be great, but you take a look at the economy, and even with us extending this another couple of months, we're not guaranteed we're going to sell out, so your chances are pretty good."
