While fall is just a few weeks off, the Southeast College is already getting ready for its next school season.
Tania Andrist, the executive director of innovation and applied research at the college, talks about their upcoming school year.
"Southeast College has been really trying to get into that energy and innovation space, and so I mean, a lot of our programming, again, our power engineering class is filled up. We have a waitlist for that class. There are a few other classes that still have some room in them. Our industrial mechanics has a little bit of room in our electrician program."
With plenty of programs still featuring open spaces, Andrist invites people to take a look at their courses.
"I would encourage people, if they're still like 'what am I gonna do this fall with my life?' Check out our Southeast College website. Search up our programming, see if there's something you can find that maybe you want to come to school with us this fall."
The Estevan region has seen some major new announcements, including a small modular reactor currently being considered by SaskPower.
Andrist says it's jobs like those which she wants to see some community interest in.
"Well, we know that that's what people are asking for. There's a demand in our region to learn more about this. So with our partnership with the University of Regina, we're going to be offering a course called nuclear engineering. It's in person in Regina at the U of R, but you can go online and take this course."
"If you want to get into this nuclear engineering space, it's a perfect place to start. Go check out our website, go to the search box and just search nuclear."
The school year will also start with a fundraiser, as the Swing for Scholarships tournament is set for early September.
"The scholarships and fundraising for our community are very close to my heart. So we have our annual Swing for Scholarships tournament this year. It's in Weyburn and it's on September 5th. There are still a few spots for golfers, so we'd love to see you, and that's again back on the website, check out golf, and you'll find our golf tournament."
Andrist encourages anyone who wants to know more about the courses or events at Southeast College over this school year to head to their website, southeastcollege.org.
