The Stoney Tribal Administration and the Tsuut'ina Nation Education Department are among 27 First Nations receiving provincial funding to bolster specialized learning and mental health supports for students in on-reserve schools.

Alberta’s government is providing up to $4.6 million in the 2025-26 school year through its Specialized Learning and Mental Health Supports for First Nations Grant. The program, announced in May, invited First Nations with at least one on-reserve school to apply.

Funding can be used for a range of needs, from support for hearing, vision and complex communication challenges, to emotional and behavioural services, occupational and physical therapy, and family school liaison programs. Mental health supports may include staff training in social-emotional learning, in-school wellness coaches or counsellors, and classroom-based social-emotional education.
