The City of Estevan is keeping the summer spirit alive with a variety of community events and activities running through the end of August.

Councillor Kristen Walliser joined us to celebrate the hard work of city staff and volunteers who made this summer’s events possible, from pool programs to sports tournaments. “Our ability to bring tournaments to Estevan is directly tied to the volunteerism in the community,” Walliser noted.

One of the newest initiatives is the Estevan Passport Challenge, encouraging residents to explore local parks and amenities by visiting sites, answering location-specific questions, and filling in their passport. Passports are available online or at Leisure Services and must be completed by Friday, August 29 for a chance to win $50 in Shop Estevan Bucks. Completed passports can be dropped off at the Estevan Leisure Centre Information Desk or emailed to marketing@estevan.ca. Suggested stops include Kensington Greens, Mel Murray Cactus Park, fresh air fitness, and walking paths.

For pet lovers, Tuesday, August 26 will mark the city’s first-ever Pooch Paddle at Hillside Park, where dogs can enjoy a swim in size-sorted groups to wrap up the paddling pool season. Pet licenses—available at City Hall—are required to participate. Registration is available online or in person, with half the proceeds supporting the Estevan Humane Society, who will also be on site from 5–7 p.m. selling taco in a bag.

The city is also reminding residents that splash pads, and seasonal washrooms will remain open until Sunday, September 15, while the bounce pillow at Royal Heights stays open until October 17, weather permitting.

Autumn Activities

Families can also take part in the final week of the Play Parks Program from August 18-22, with a “Nature Discovery” theme, morning games (10:30 a.m.–12 p.m.) and afternoon swimming (1–5 p.m.) at local paddling pools.

The month wraps up with Citywide Registration Night on Thursday, August 28 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at the Affinity Place walking track. This year’s event will feature 24 exhibitors offering information and registration for sports, clubs, cultural programs, and local services. Swimming lesson sign-up will be available at the Leisure Services office or online, and the City-Wide Information Guide will be released ahead of the event. Residents can also stop by the City Council table to meet their elected officials.

Whether it’s trying a new walking path, letting your dog make a splash, or finding a fresh hobby, Estevan is offering plenty of ways to make the most of the final weeks of summer and early fall.
