Woodlawn Regional Park gave families another reason to get outside this weekend, as its second Summer Fun Fest of the season brought people to Boundary Dam for an afternoon of activities.
Park manager Maureen Daoust said they always aim to host one Fun Fest at Woodlawn and one at Boundary so the community can enjoy both locations.
“Woodlawn was really busy in July. We had a lot of people that came out, and we held it at our new Binzebo, our new venue down there, just to kind of show that off for people,” she said.
The Boundary Dam event was originally set for last weekend but was postponed when heavy rain swept through the area. While this weekend’s weather was cooler and cloudy, families still made their way to the beach, taking in games, activities and face painting.
The event also had support from other local organizations, which Daoust said helps add variety and energy to the day. The Estevan Art Gallery and Museum, the Family Resource Centre and the Early Learning Centre were all on hand, while the Souris Valley Museum took part in the July gathering at Woodlawn.
“We do our best at Woodlawn to be community-minded. It’s a free event for everyone to come to."
The Fun Fests are just one way the park has kept families engaged this summer. Movie nights have been popular, with families spreading out blankets and lawn chairs under the stars. Moana 2 was shown at Boundary Dam last week, while Cars played at Woodlawn in July. Calm evenings and family-friendly choices have helped make them a hit.
With summer quickly winding down, Woodlawn still has one more evening of live music planned at the Binzebo, with Robert Godfrey set to perform. After that, the park’s busy season of activities will officially come to a close.
