The Sylvan Lake Gulls came up just short in their bid for a WCBL championship, falling 5–4 to the Regina Red Sox in Game 3 of the final Saturday night (August 16).

The game was tight from start to finish, with scoreless second, fourth, eighth and ninth innings keeping fans on edge.

In the bottom of the ninth, with two outs and 1,895 fans on their feet, the Gulls had Michael Quick on second base representing the tying run and Bryce Turner on first as the potential winning run.

A fly ball to center field ended the game, leaving both runners stranded.

The Red Sox captured the Harry Hallis Memorial Trophy, named after North Battleford’s Harry Hallis, a major supporter of Saskatchewan baseball in the 1950s.

After the game, the Gulls shared a message on social media:

“While the ending isn’t what we dreamed of, we hold our heads high after an unforgettable season filled with grit, growth, and memories that will last a lifetime. We tip our caps to Regina on a hard-fought championship series.

To our incredible fans — thank you for filling the stands with your voices and your spirit. To our staff — thank you for the countless hours behind the scenes. And to our players — thank you for leaving it all on the field and giving this community a summer to celebrate.

This season may have ended, but the story of the Gulls is only getting started.”
