Being a father(or a parent in general) provides you with a multitude of opportunities to be proud. You can name just about anything and it can be a proud moment for you. But the best part of having those proud moments, is when your child is also proud of what they've done. It's one of the best feelings, without question.

Our middle daughter Kensington decided she wanted to try roller derby this year. She had never stood on a pair of roller skates before, so this was a shot in the dark. But it looked fun, and she wanted to give it a go. So we were right on board.

Fast forward to this past weekend, as she wrapped up her first year with the team this weekend as they had their annual "Derby-O" game (a take on Super Mario) out in Gull Lake. Being a proud parent is easy when your child tries something new, pushes themself and sees change. It's hard not to shed a tear or two when you see them succeed.

Well this weekend, she managed to capture MVP honors in their junior game and was pretty proud of herself for doing so. As she should be. You work hard; it pays off.

Being a parent is a tough role, because there are ups and downs, hard times and easy. You can sometimes experience each and every one of those feelings all in the same day. But nothing ever replaces the feeling of being proud. You can always go back to that.

So congratulations Kensington. You worked hard, practiced harder and gave all your efforts to improve in your first year in roller derby. You should be proud of yourself. Because I'll tell ya, I'm proud of you Kensi.
