Alberta RCMP are urging residents to guard against mail theft and say simple measures can reduce the risk.
Police said steps such as using a locking mailbox, collecting mail promptly and arranging for neighbours to pick it up while away can help prevent theft. They also recommend shredding correspondence that contains personal or financial information.
Alongside the warning, officers highlighted RAVE Mobile Safety, a notification system that provides updates on crime trends, missing people and traffic advisories, as well as invitations to community safety presentations.
RCMP said suspicious activity can be reported to local detachments, and crimes in progress should be called in to 911. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.P3Tips.com.
