With a voice that blends the heart of classic country and the energy of rock’n’roll, Lisa Moen is set to electrify the stage at this year’s Coal Creek Festival in Roche Percee. The Saskatoon-based singer-songwriter has been a force in Canada’s country music scene for over two decades, earning accolades like Country Music Person of the Year and Interactive Artist of the Year from the Saskatchewan Country Music Association.
Moen’s roots run deep in Saskatchewan soil. Raised in Outlook, she was born into a musical family. “My grandparents were both musicians, and my dad and uncle are in a band called The Myrol Brothers,” she shared. “They were really hot on the country scene in the early '90s, so I kind of fell into country music and was raised on that. That wonderful '90s country music is everything to me.”
Her sound is a unique fusion of old and new country with a splash of rock, shaped by her long-time bandmates. “These guys have been with me for 10 years, and they’re all rock and rollers from back in the day,” Moen said. “My songwriting is very country, I’m a small-town girl, and on stage, we’re high energy. We keep everybody on their toes.”
Lisa’s excitement for the Coal Creek Festival is palpable. “We’ve never been out to the festival before, and all of the lineup are literally all of my country music family in Saskatchewan,” she said. “It’s like coming home to these festivals, I’m so grateful that there are festivals like this still out in our communities that support us local Canadian artists.”
Known for her interactive performances, Moen thrives on audience connection. “We love to connect with the audience, bring the crowd right up into us, and get everybody singing along and dancing,” she explained. “Music really taps into memories for people… we try to touch base with all different walks of life.”
One of her standout tracks, Silly Boys, Trucks Are for Girls, is a cheeky anthem born from a moment of inspiration on a Saskatchewan backroad. “I was driving down a country road in my truck, Big Blue, and I thought, ‘Silly boys, trucks are for girls,’” she laughed. “We’re Saskatchewan girls and we love our 4x4s!”
