The Town of Blackfalds is wrapping up its Summer Culture Series with a community favourite making its return.
The Blackfalds Street Dance will take over Broadway Avenue this Thursday (Aug. 21) from 5:00 p.m.– 8:00 p.m., closing the road from Railway Street to Indiana Street.
The event is a collaboration between the Town of Blackfalds, the Heart of Blackfalds Society, local businesses, and community organizations.
Attendees can expect live music, a DJ, games, food, charity fundraisers, glitter tattoos, aerial silks, a beer garden, and plenty of space to dance.
One of the highlights will be a dunk tank, where residents can try their hand at soaking local figures, including Mayor Jamie Hoover, Bulldogs players, and Blackfalds RCMP Staff Sergeant Andrew Allan.
“It was brought to my attention through the Town—and as soon as I heard about it, I jumped in completely,” said Allan, who will be the first to take the plunge.
“I’ve even seen some of the other Members here at the office practicing their throws.” Allan added that while it may not be graceful, he’s happy to get dunked in full uniform if it helps raise money for local causes.
The newly formed Heart of Blackfalds Society is helping lead the event saying they are thrilled to revive the Blackfalds Street Dance.
Society president Trent Kroetsch says, “Many of our members fondly remember this community celebration nearly two decades ago, and we’re excited to help bring the magic back.”
The society will also host cornhole games and sell merchandise and “Love Locks” for the heart display at the Abbey Centre.
The Street Dance is free to attend, though some activities—such as food and fundraisers—will have a cost.
