As roadwork continues across Portage la Prairie this summer, another temporary closure is on the way, this time at one of the city's downtown intersections.

Beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, the intersection of 3rd Street and Saskatchewan Avenue E will be partially closed to accommodate ongoing construction.

According to the City of Portage la Prairie, only eastbound and westbound traffic will be permitted through the intersection during this time. All northbound and southbound access at 3rd St. will be restricted.

The closure follows the recent valve repair near the intersection of Royal Road and Saskatchewan Avenue, which had a westbound lane shut down for two days earlier this month.

City officials say the current work is part of continued infrastructure improvements, and crews aim to complete the project by the end of the day on Sunday, August 31, weather permitting.

Though no formal detour has been announced for this specific closure, drivers who normally use 3rd Street to cross Saskatchewan Avenue are advised to plan an alternate route and allow extra travel time.

Residents with questions or concerns are encouraged to reach out to the City’s Operations Department at operations@city-plap.com.
