Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for parts of Ponoka and Wetaskiwin counties.

Forecasters say conditions are favourable for storms that could produce strong wind gusts, large hail, heavy rain and possibly a tornado.
Thunderstorms are expected to form over west-central Alberta this afternoon and move east into the evening.
Residents are advised to take cover if threatening weather approaches and move indoors when thunder is heard.
