The below-average conditions over the past month are going away this week as temperatures are rapidly rising in the southeast. Both today and tomorrow will see temperatures above the 30-degree mark, much higher than the average has been over the past few weeks.
Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist Crawford Luke says a bit of moisture in the air from over the weekend will also keep conditions humid.
"Definitely going to be looking at a hot and even a humid week too. It's looking like we're going to have temperatures well into the 30s. Humidex is getting closer to 40 with the humidity. So it's going to be quite hot for at least the next few days."
Later on, temperatures will cool back below the seasonal average Wednesday night into Thursday.
For the time being, we'll face nightly rains, which will keep the area humid, while Luke says they may not intrude on the days themselves.
"There's like a small chance on Wednesday, maybe, but it looks like more than anything, these are probably going to be isolated thunderstorms. It looks like they will be more of an evening, overnight kind of timing, more than anything. Maybe Thursday we'll see some showers in the daytime as the cold front comes through."
While rain will be in the forecast throughout the hot flash, Luke says some areas could be dry as we see some inconsistent rains over the next few days.
"Overall, it is looking pretty dry this week. It's just kind of those chances of showers reflect some isolated thunderstorms that could form across the south and southeast in the evening on those days."
Luke reminds people to keep themselves cool as much as possible with the heat on the way.
