A southwest artist is hard at work on another unique mural.

After completing his work on the outside wall of The Center, the folks at Meek Blend Medical Asthetics approached Shaunavon's Andrew Robertson to commission another piece of art.

"I've always been interested in old Western art and Cowboys and kind of that cool culture of, like, gunslingers and whatnot," says Robertson.

The mural, which depicts an old cowboy with a beard, is a style of art called woodcut. As such, the art looks like a stamp carved into a block of wood.

Robertson is no stranger to the art world.

"I've been painting for about four years," he says. "I started during COVID and then started doing murals two years ago, and it's been going ever since."

His murals inspired him to create the Southwest Mural Fest—a multi-day event that features muralists from across Canada transforming walls in Shaunavon into colourful works.

Robertson's art is featured across Western Canada, including the Food Bank Hub in Regina and the Moose and Squirrel Bistro in Medicine Hat.

He has also taken his talents to Iceland, where he was given the unique opportunity to paint a canvas piece while on a glacier.

He hopes to have this new mural completed by the end of Tuesday.
