Wetaskiwin and Ponoka RCMP have arrested and charged two in connection with a $60,000 equipment theft.
On Aug. 8, Wetaskiwin RCMP received a report of a company work trailer that had been broken into in Wetaskiwin County near Malmo. About $60,000 worth of tools were stolen.
One of the stolen items contained an Apple AirTag, which pinged to a home in Ponoka.
A search warrant was obtained and executed at the residence by Ponoka RCMP, the Ponoka General Investigation Section, Wetaskiwin RCMP, the Wetaskiwin Crime Reduction Unit and police dog services. Officers recovered most of the stolen tools, which have since been returned to their owners.
Lauren Curtis, 46, of Ponoka, and Andrew Renaud, 34, of Lacombe County, were charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.
Both were released following judicial interim release hearings and are scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Ponoka on Aug. 22.
