Sunset Palliative Care has officially launched its much-anticipated Rainbow Auction this week. The auction runs this week and until August 28 at 8:00 p.m. With over $11,000 in prizes and 16 grand prize bundles up for grabs, this year's auction is set to be one of the biggest yet.
Aldene Moroz, a long-time Sunset volunteer and the executive director board, shared the organization's excitement,
"The businesses have been extremely generous this year," said Moroz. "We've got everything from an electric bike to Muskoka chairs, power tools, sports tickets, and even a mini fridge and freezer stocked with $250 worth of meat."
The auction features 42 themed baskets valued between $100 and $150, alongside major prize bundles including a signed Winnipeg Jets jersey by Alex Iafallo, a fire pit donated by new local business Portage Iron Limited, and $550 in local restaurant gift cards.
"There's something for everyone," Moroz added.
Funds raised from the auction will go directly toward Sunset's education and training initiatives. This year, 21 healthcare professionals, including volunteers, aides, and local nurses, will be sponsored to attend the provincial palliative care conference in Winnipeg.
Moroz emphasized the role of community support and volunteerism in Sunset's operations.
"We have 42 volunteers and a fantastic board. I had no idea of the scope of this work when I joined 11 years ago. It's truly remarkable."
In addition to the Rainbow Auction, Sunset Palliative Care is also raffling off a brand-new Toyota RAV4. Tickets are $50 each, and each ticket enters participants into 10 separate draws. The top prize? The RAV4, fully taxed and fueled, and ready to drive away.
"There are only 3,000 tickets printed," Moroz noted, "The first draw is coming up fast next Friday, August 29, it's a $1000 gift card to Co-op."
Other draws include weekly cash prizes and culminate in the RAV4 giveaway on December 22.
