A heat warning has been issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada for southern Saskatchewan, including here in the Weyburn area. The warning comes as temperatures climb into the 30s.

The forecast high for Tuesday is 33°, with the humidity making it feel like 38. There won’t be much relief overnight, as the mercury will only dip to 20°. Things will get even hotter on Wednesday with a high of 35°. With the humidity, it will feel more like 43. Relief is then expected to start on Thursday, as the temperature dips back below 30°, with a forecasted high of 25°.

Environment Canada is advising people to watch for signs of heat exhaustion, such as headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine, and intense fatigue. They recommend seeking shelter from the heat with air conditioning. If your home is too hot, they suggest going to a cool public space such as a library, community centre, or a shaded park.

It is also recommended to watch for signs of heat stroke. These include red and hot skin, dizziness, nausea, confusion, and loss of consciousness. If you or someone around you is showing signs of heat stroke, it is advised to call 911. While waiting for medical attention, try to cool the person down.

Heat warnings are issued by Environment Canada when the temperature gets above 32° during the day, and stays above 16° at night, for two or more consecutive days.
