A dream for a Lacombe County couple, more than a decade in the making is about to come to life.

Train Acres Miniature Railway, located just west of Sylvan Lake in Benalto, will host its first annual fundraiser for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation on September 6 and 7.

The miniature railway was developed by Ernie and Dorinda Beskowiney, inspired by their grandson’s care at a children’s hospital in Ottawa.

Over 14 years, Ernie built locomotives and developed a 12-acre miniature railway on the family’s Lacombe County property, turning it into a unique venue for fundraising.

The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days, with the last train departing at 4:30 p.m.

Admission is $10 per ride, with all proceeds going directly to the hospital foundations.

Visitors can enjoy multiple train routes, themed stations, and activities for all ages, along with on-site food trucks offering pizza and ice cream. Washroom facilities will also be available for attendees.

Train Acres Miniature Railway is located at 39014 Range Road 30, just 10 minutes west of Sylvan Lake off Highway 11.

This marks the first time the railway is opening to the public as a charitable event, giving the community a chance to support Alberta children’s hospitals while enjoying a family-friendly experience.
