The Lacombe Performing Arts Centre (LPAC), in partnership with FCSS Lacombe, is once again offering dementia-friendly music sessions this fall.
The free weekly program runs Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., from October 7 to December 2, at LPAC.
Registration is required by emailing admin@lacombepac.com or calling 403-588-4386.
The sessions are designed to build community connections, uplift spirits, and create an inclusive environment for people living with dementia.
Activities will include Music Bingo, painting to music, rhythm exercises, guest musicians and more.
My Health Alberta says that research shows music can play a unique role in the lives of people with dementia, as the area of the brain that remembers and responds to music is often among the last affected by the disease. Even those in advanced stages may respond to familiar songs or sing along.
Organizers say the program provides a safe and supportive space for participants to engage with their community, boost their mood, and enrich their daily lives.
