Southeast College is getting ready for another school year, and with a Small Modular Reactor (SMR) currently being considered for the southeast region by SaskPower, nuclear power will be among the course offerings beginning next month.
The new potential trajectory for anyone hoping to get into the nuclear industry is Nuclear Engineering, a unique hybrid course in partnership with the University of Regina, delivered by U of R faculty in person and via Zoom.
"We know that that's what people are asking for. There's a demand in our region to learn more about this," said Tania Andrist, Executive Director of Innovation and Applied Research with Southeast College.
"It's for people with a bit of a science background, but, of course, if you want to get into this nuclear engineering space, it's a perfect place to start."
She said they have been making strides in the energy and innovation space, with quite a few courses filled up with waitlists, such as the power engineering class.
"There are a few other classes that still have some room in them. Our industrial mechanics has a little bit of room, and our electrician program."
Andrist encourages those looking to take first steps on their career paths to explore their course listings HERE.
The school year will also begin with the annual Swing for Scholarships golf tournament fundraiser on September 5th at the Weyburn Golf Club.
"There are still a few spots for golfers, so we'd love to see you."
The cost is $170 per golfer, or $50 for the dinner only. Find registration information HERE.
