It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of Mary Cook (nee Bergen), aged 74, who passed away peacefully at home on July 30th, with family by her side. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunty, cousin, and dear friend to many. Born in Dryden, ON, Mary lived a life filled with love and selfless dedication to her family.

In 1986, Mary moved to Thunder Bay to obtain her nursing diploma at Confederation College. She practiced at Port Arthur General Hospital for many years before transitioning to home healthcare in Winnipeg in 1999. In 2007, Mary retired from healthcare to devote her time to the new loves of her life: her grandchildren. She was a tireless supporter of their athletic, artistic, and academic pursuits and loved chasing them around the province to cheer them on.

Mary leaves behind her children Darren Finch (Erika), Mike Huard, and Chantelle Murray (Corey), and her grandchildren Alexa, Kaelyn, Talya, Charlize, Casey, Cadence, Ashlyn, Rosalee, Riley, and Selah, who will miss her beyond measure. She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings Jack (Jean), Dora, Nettie, Bill (Annette), Linda, and Lloyd (Audrey), who shared a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love with her. Mary’s warmth and presence will be fondly remembered by so many other family members and friends she held close to her heart.

She was predeceased by her husband Douglas Finch; her parents, Henry and Agnes Bergen; her brother Abe Bergen; and her brothers-in-law Alec Lachmanetz and Doug Hourie.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Cystic Fibrosis in memory of Mary Cook. A service will be held on Sept 27 in Vermillion Bay ON.
