Estevan Minor Baseball (EMB) wrapped up its summer season this week with an awards ceremony celebrating the achievements of players, coaches, and umpires across all age groups.

“It was a hot evening, definitely reminded us of baseball season, but it was good to get together to celebrate some of the accomplishments of our teams,” said EMB treasurer Kevin Sliva. “We had a couple of teams that were provincial silver medalists this year, but it was also important to recognize individual contributions and celebrate those athletes.”

Sliva highlighted the importance of recognizing sportsmanship, noting that the Most Sportsmanlike Player award goes to “the kid that doesn’t complain, shows up every day, is nice to teammates, umpires, coaches, and spectators—everything that goes along with being a real sportsmanlike player.”

For 18U players, the Mel Murray Graduating Player Award recognizes those who have shown dedication and hard work throughout their minor baseball careers. “It honours players who are done with their minor ball careers but have contributed positively and made a long-lasting impact on minor ball,” Sliva said.

While the 2025 season is officially over, EMB plans to run a fall program to provide kids with additional opportunities to play before the hockey, skating, and curling seasons begin. “We’ll run practices and possibly an exhibition game or two, just to enjoy baseball before winter sports start,” Sliva said.

Reflecting on the season, Sliva praised the baseball community for their support. “It was an excellent season for all the athletes. We had great coaches, and the support from parents, grandparents, fans, and the business community has been incredible. Without them, we wouldn’t have minor ball or the facilities we use,” he said.
