The U13 AAA Canucks concluded a memorable season with a strong showing at the Western Canadian Baseball Championship in Chilliwack, B.C., held from August 15 to 17.
Despite challenging weather, the Canucks went 2–2 in pool play, including a tough three-inning tie-breaker loss that kept them just shy of the playoffs. They went on to compete in the consolation round, finishing sixth overall.
“We had a good weekend. The weather was a bit of a challenge, but we worked through it. It was worth the drive.”
This marked a historic moment for Moose Jaw baseball, as Bauck noted, “We’ve never had a team in the last 15 to 20 years represent Moose Jaw at this tournament. We’re the first ones in that long.”
The players thoroughly enjoyed the experience, both on and off the field. With Friday’s games canceled due to rain, the team enjoyed a day of recreation, including arcade games and go-karting—an opportunity that strengthened team bonds.
Traveling by bus through the mountains, the team made a stop in the Shuswap region to tour a historic home, adding a cultural touch to their journey. Throughout the trip, the players represented Moose Jaw with pride and professionalism.
“Umpires came up to us after games and commented on how well-behaved the kids were and how professionally they carried themselves,” Bauck said.
“We couldn’t ask any more out of these kids,” Bauck said. “When it seemed to count, that’s when the boys showed up to play.”
As the season concludes, the Canucks will retain four players for next year and begin recruiting new talent in early 2026. Interested families can find registration details through the Moose Jaw Minor Ball Association’s Facebook page.
