A quartet of conservation groups are gearing up for a virtual tour of the Southwest Sandhills this Thursday, set to delve into the land management, flora, and fauna present in the area.
Thanks to the collaboration between the Nature Conservancy of Canada, Nature Saskatchewan, Birds Canada, and the Southwest Sheep Pasture, folks will get to learn all about one of Saskatchewan's natural treasures.
Kayla Burak, engagement manager at the Nature Conservancy of Canada, shared that the Southwest Sandhills Virtual Tour will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and is free to tune in.
"What we're going to do with these other organizations is take you on a virtual tour of this area, talk about the management plans we're working on to conserve it, and about some of the plants and wildlife that call the area home," she said.
Additionally, Thursday's virtual event will give attendees a sneak peek into the Nature Conservancy of Canada's upcoming tour of the Southwest Sheep Pasture near Maple Creek.
"This area of Saskatchewan is one of the most unique areas on the prairies, if not all of Canada," Burak added. "It contains some of the largest sets of active sand dunes in Canada, and it's home to a diverse community of plants and wildlife species, many of which are considered at-risk."
Anyone interested in registering for the virtual tour can email kayla.burak@natureconservancy.ca or head to the Nature Conservancy of Canada's website.
