Moose Jaw’s Kashton Smith was one of Saskatchewan’s leading scorers as they defeated PEI 18-1 at the Canada Summer Games on Tuesday in St. John’s, Nfld. 

Smith finished with three goals and five assists, while fellow Moose Javian Chase Folk also had a goal for Saskatchewan. 

Team Saskatchewan is back on the floor for two games on Wednesday when they take on Manitoba and New Brunswick. 

Over to athletics, Assiniboia’s Kyle Giraudier and Bradyn Giraudier took part in the men’s special Olympics 100 metre run on Tuesday. 

Kyle finished fifth in his heat race with a time of 12.76 and qualified for the consolation race. Bradyn was second in his heat race, finishing in 11.93, putting him into the medal round. 

The consolation and medal rounds take place on Friday. 

In the women’s 1,500 metre, Moose Jaw’s Katie Rogers was seventh in her heat race with a time of 4:42.12.  

The top four from each heat race plus the next four best times qualified for the medal heats. While Rogers didn’t finish in the top four, she did have one of the next four fastest times and will qualify for the medal heats. 

The medal heats for the women’s 1,500 metre takes place on Friday.
