Environment Canada issued a Tornado Watch Wednesday afternoon for parts of southwestern Manitoba, including the Melita, Boissevain, Souris and Virden regions.
"A low over Montana is bringing moisture and heat over southeastern Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba which will give a high potential for tornadoes, significant hail, strong winds and torrential precipitation this evening," explained the Watch. "Thunderstorms should start late this afternoon, and continue throughout the evening, and taper off late this evening."
Tornado watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes.
Thunderstorm and tornado watches are now in effect over portions of MB. For the southwest, confidence has increased for strong storms developing this evening with the potential of very large hail, strong wind gusts, and tornadoes. Have a way to receive alerts! #mbstorm pic.twitter.com/AstMmp4Xob

In the event of a tornado, or if a tornado warning is issued for your area, it is recommended you take the following actions: Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet.
Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
