Lacombe Pride is gearing up for its third annual Pride Weekend on Friday and Saturday (August 22/23), bringing two full days of celebration, performances, and community connection.
The festivities begin tomorrow morning at the Michener House Museum with a flag-raising ceremony from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., held in partnership with the Lacombe Museums.
This marks the third year for the event and will feature special guests, including MLAs Janis Irwin and Brooks Arcand-Paul.
At 2:30 p.m., the Lacombe Memorial Centre will host the community’s first-ever Drag Storytime in the Kinsmen Room.
Families are encouraged to come dressed in their best royal attire for an afternoon of high tea, crafts, and storytelling led by Lacombe Pride board members Lush Panhick and Mrs. K. and is open to all ages.
Friday evening, Blindman Brewing will host Pups and Pints from 7:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m.
Guests are invited to dress their dogs in rainbow attire for photo opportunities and goodie bags provided by Curious Tails and Tilted Barn and adoptable puppies from Next Chapter Animal Rescue will also be on-site.
Saturday’s main event, Pride in the Park, runs from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Lest We Forget Park, located behind the Lacombe Memorial Centre.
The free, all-ages celebration will feature more than 20 vendors from across Alberta, performances on the Echo Mainstage, a community BBQ sponsored by Lacombe Ford, and activities including games, crafts, and prizes.
The weekend will close with Paint the Town Gay, an 18+ drag show at the Royal Canadian Legion.
Doors open at 7:30 p.m. with the show starting at 8 p.m.
The lineup includes Gogo Fetch, Moranna Hurry, The Red Silence, Hot Wheelz, Blossom, Berry Wet Latina, Shayne On You, Charli Darwin, and hometown performer Lush Panhick. Tickets are available online and at the door.
