The Weyburn Humane Society is holding an online auction via Facebook to raise funds for Rosa, a dog who has since been adopted, who tore her ACL while at the shelter.
"That surgery was quite expensive. It was about $3,500. So that's our goal for this auction. If we exceed that goal, the money raised will go towards paying off other surgeries and other expenses that aren't everyday costs," said Cayla Shelly, an employee at the animal shelter.
"Accidents happen, unfortunately, and you can't control them. In the almost six years that I have worked there, this is the first time I've seen something of this scale. It's not something that is very common."
The online auction opened up at 5 p.m. on Monday and will close at 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 24th. Find the link HERE.
Auction items have been donated by local businesses and community members.
"We had a lot of home businesses and home crafting people donate, which was really nice to see. There is definitely something for everybody, whether you're a farmer or stay-at-home mom, there's stuff for kids, home decor. We even have a few TVs, gift cards, all kinds of stuff."
Bidding, noted Shelly, is done in the comments section.
"You may have to change the settings in the comments to make sure that they're in order, and then we're increasing the bids minimum of $1 each time. In the event of a tie, once the bids end, it'll be whoever's comment appears first," Shelly explained. "If you click on the picture underneath where the likes appear, there will be a little down tab, and it'll say 'most relevant', 'newest', or 'all comments'. If you go to 'newest', it'll put them in order."
She said all winners will be contacted through Facebook Messenger.
"None of the items are being stored at the Humane Society, so we will give you instructions on where to pick them up. If we can't contact you within 24 hours, we will consider the next person the winner," Shelly stated.
The animal shelter has a debit machine for payments, but they will also accept e-transfers.
"Thank you to everybody who donated, and thank you to everybody who has been so far, and a shout out to anybody who might bid coming up," Shelly added. "We hope that everybody checks it out, and we would like to see all your comments on our posts."
